The Laboratory Medicine Department
The Laboratory Medicine Department at Augusta Victoria Hospital is dedicated to providing accurate and reliable diagnostic laboratory testing to support our patients' care.
Our highly trained staff is comprised of Medical Technologist that are well qualified and highly educated. Sixty percent of our medical technologists have Master’s degree and 13% have or are pursing PhD’s.
Our team utilizes state-of-the-art well maintained equipment, ensures reporting high quality results, it participates in several external quality control programs, like CAP from the collage of American Pathologists.
DLM conducts a wide range of diagnostic services including 400,000 laboratory tests annually, which includes clinical chemistry, hematology, diagnostic microbiology, coagulation, therapeutic drugs monitoring, tumor markers levels, immunofixation and molecular testing unit. Additionally, DLM Blood Bank prepares and distributes 2,750 blood products to patients, including 500 units of single donor platelets collected by our apheresis unit. Furthermore, the DLM have a strategic plan to reintroduce bone marrow transplantation in the upcoming two years.
Our molecular team are highly qualified and utilize high caliber diagnostic assays that include, Real-Time PCR, Sanger Sequencing and Next generation Sequencing. The short Turn Around Time (TAT) of molecular assays allows our physicians to take timely decision to properly manage their patients. Additionally, our molecular unit provides high quality flow cytometry analysis that assists in patients’ medical management.
The DLM team are well respected on the national level, our team participates in training student from many Palestinian universities in addition to training local hospitals in diagnostic microbiology and infection control.
The department is accredited by international organizations and is committed to providing fast turnaround times for test results and collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure the best possible care for our patients.
