Salim’s Story
Salim‘s journey with illness started when he was just seven years old. It was September, and what started as a minor bout of fatigue soon escalated into something much more severe. Despite initial treatments, Salim's condition worsened, leading to a hospital transfer and a diagnosis of Nasopharyngeal rhabdomyosarcoma.
But Salim and his family were determined to battle the disease. They faced it head-on, challenging life and persevering through each treatment and examination, no matter how draining it may be. The cancer may have tried to steal their vitality and joy, but their resolve was stronger.
Salim was transferred to Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem to continue his treatment, where he was met with a sense of humanity and care from the hospital's doctors. He joined the school within the hospital to continue his education and actively participated in the hospital's activities and events, showcasing his beautiful singing voice.
Although Salim often missed his family and friends back in Gaza, he persevered through his treatments and studies. He found comfort in the support he received from the hospital staff and other patients he met during his journey. Despite the physical and emotional toll of the treatments, Salim never lost his sense of hope and resilience.
One day, during a break from his treatments, Salim found himself at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. This was a dream come true for him, as he had always longed to visit the holy site. As he prayed, he felt a sense of peace wash over him. He realized that although he may be facing a difficult journey, he was not alone. He had the support of his family, friends, and the wider community, who were all standing by his side.
Despite the challenges, Salim never gave up. He continued to attend his treatments and studies. He dreamed of a day when he would be able to return home to Gaza, play by the sea, and fulfill his dream of becoming a swimming coach.
Salim's journey is a reminder that even in the darkest of moments, hope and resilience can shine through. His story is a testament to the power of the human spirit and the importance of support.
