Augusta Victoria Hospital (AVH) has officially reopened its Reception Department
Augusta Victoria Hospital (AVH) has officially reopened its Reception Department following a major renovation and upgrade—an important milestone where history meets innovation, and where healing begins. This marks the first comprehensive modernization of the Reception Department since the hospital began providing medical services to the public 75 years ago.
The reopening ceremony was attended by hospital staff and representatives of partner organizations, including H.E. Anke Schlimm, Head of Mission of the German Representative Office, and Bishop Dr. Imad Haddad of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land.
For generations, this hall has welcomed patients, families, visitors, and caregivers. Through this renovation, AVH honors its rich legacy while embracing a more welcoming, humane, and patient-centered future. The renewed space reflects not only modern design and improved functionality for patients’ accessibility and safety, but also the hospital’s shared values of dignity, compassion, and hope for all who enter its doors.
The Reception Department includes offices that provide essential logistical services, such as arranging patient transportation to and from the hospital, issuing permits and facilitating necessary coordination, and scheduling appointments for medical treatment.
AVH’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Fadi Al Atrash, stated that reopening the Reception Department in its new form is part of a series of comprehensive modernization projects initiated to commemorate 75 years of medical service. He emphasized that these achievements serve as a source of hope and demonstrate that service improvement at all levels remains possible despite the complex challenges of the current period.
For her part, Sieglinde Weinbrenner, Representative of the Lutheran World Federation – Jerusalem Program, underscored the successful completion of the Reception Department modernization, noting that the works were carried out in a manner that preserves the hospital’s unique historical character. She emphasized the continued commitment and support of partners to Augusta Victoria Hospital, which remain vital in addressing current challenges and ensuring the sustainability of essential medical services. She further highlighted that the renewed Reception Hall stands as a powerful symbol of partnership, resilience, and healing, offering hope to all who pass through its doors.
Dr. Al Atrash also expressed his sincere appreciation to AVH’s partners—foremost among them the German Government and the humanitarian organization Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe /DKH—for their generous support in completing the development and modernization of the Reception Department. This contribution significantly enhances the hospital’s healing environment, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women and children.
